This book is the result of exhaustive research, poring over dozens of private collections and institutional archives in a bid to trace the history of the first century of photography in Lanzarote. As well as guiding us through the defining characteristics of photography on the island and the photographers themselves, it also presents some of the best photographic images taken during this period. A hundred years of photography are brought into focus and put into historical context, taking into account is many facets; as a means of communication; an art form; a technological innovation; a form of cultural expression; an information source; a social phenomenon and an anthropological tool. But, above all, this book is an odyssey through a carefully selected collection of more than 140 photographs, many of which have never before been published, and all of which form and immensely important part of Lanzarote's heritage.
