La Guerra de Sertorio

In 82 B.C., Quintus Sertorius, a member of the Popular Party of Rome, would arrive in Hispania as proconsul with the mission of securing the province for a Rome gripped by the power of Lucius Cornelius Sulla. From a position of power, Sertorius would challenge Sulla's dictatorship and the new model of republic, in what would become the epilogue of Rome's first bloody civil war, and which would see the appearance of a new military genius: Gnaeus Pompey Magnus. This rigorous essay aims to shed light on the journey of Quintus Sertorius in Hispania, reconstructing facts, tactical movements and strategies, and analyzing the why, who, how and when of what we know, from the two main sources of information such as classical texts and archeology. It also unravels the factors that have helped forge the myth of Sertorius during the modern and contemporary eras, in an exercise of differentiation between the Past - the events that really happened - and what we know about it and transmit, that which we call History.
