The ability to communicate with dragons is essential for competitive dragon racing. When Jackson McLoughlin is born into a family of Dragon Speakers lacking this gift, he is labeled Creature Deaf and, as such, will never be able to handle or ride the magnificent beasts. It's just too dangerous.

Assigned to the lowly task of cleaning up after the dragons, Jackson's self-doubt grows. While once a formidable force on the local racing scene, his family struggles to compete against a well-funded racing conglomerate. As the pressure mounts, Jackson's frustrations only increase.

When an overwhelming urge leads Jackson to Tivet, an abused dragonet, something magical happens between them that neither expects. And Jackson discovers within himself a willingness to fight for something he believes in.

More than malnourished and underdeveloped, the dragonet is unlike any other the racing community has ever seen. The differences become undeniable as Tivet blossoms under Jackson's care, and their unusual connection strengthens.

But as the unlikely duo explores their growing bond, corrupt forces are gaining a foothold within their small Irish racing community.
