It should have been a blissful few days set deep in a Cheshire forest. A luxurious log cabin retreat just twenty minutes' drive from home. No aeroplane to catch, no bank holiday chaos, no stress and some much needed family time together. The sun shone, the temperature soared and the champagne flowed. All the ingredients were there for a perfect family escape.

A freak heatwave was forecast for that bank holiday, extraordinary for that time of year. With a faulty aircon system and an unbearable muggy night ahead, Will persuades Karen to leave the bedroom door open, the door that leads out to the woods. That is mistake number one.
