Learning, teaching, and leading are central to recent scholarship on sustainable educational renewal and school improvement. These three concepts can be discrete activities and in the past, each tended to be represented by separate and distinct bodies of literature. As scholars began to think about learning, teaching, and leading as related concepts, they generally linked only two of the three concepts together; for example, teachers as learners, the learning-centered principal, and teacher leaders. The articles in this Theory Into Practice issue suggest that viewing learning, teaching, and leading holistically may enhance understanding of how these mutually supporting concepts are evolving in a complex, uncertain, and rapidly changing global environment. In addition to linking the three concepts in new ways, the articles indicate some of the reasons behind the current renewal of global concern and interest in learning, teaching, and leading. Many of those reasons and perspectives reflect the influence of the phenomena of globalization and technology that allowed easy migration of people, goods, and ideas across geographical, political, or national boundaries.
