Palisade, Nevada—July 1878

The sheriff of Elko County stands in the Lind family home on the outskirts of town on a hot, dry Sunday morning. He’s staring at Meg Lind, dead on the kitchen floor, a single bullet ripped through her chest. Earlier, her brute-of-a-husband, Daniel, was found standing over her body with revolver in hand. Their daughter, seven-year old Allie, is left without a parent to care for her. The sheriff reluctantly steps in to rescue Allie from the evil of the town—and in doing so forever binds them. Over the following several years, the sheriff, Allie, and Daniel are all forced to face their unsettled pasts. Destinies ultimately collide in a rush back to Palisade for final confrontations, where good and bad come face-to-face—sometimes within the same person.

Let Go the Reins is a gritty, tense, and deeply moving western, yet ultimately a beautiful story set in the Old West town of Palisade, Nevada, and stretching into Arizona, California, and Wyoming.
