The present work, a study and translation of the vast second chapter of "The Illuminations of Mecca" is entirely devoted to the contemplation of the so-called science of letters. From the visionary perspective of the Murcian master, this science constitutes the hermeneutic key to the interpretation of the book of the cosmos and of all the sciences of revelation. In this writing, extremely significant in the history of Islamic esotericism, the fruit of his realization and his direct vision, the author plunges into the very mystery of Islamic cosmogony: the divine creative Word. It can be said that the entire work as a whole deals with that living reality which is the revealed word, but it is in this second chapter where all this vision is synthesized in an esoteric science whose modalities are a reflection of an inner itinerary in which the hermeneut, traveling in that incessant exhalation from which the inspired word emerges, testifies to the effects of the divine unveiling. Thus, the master introduces us to that marvelous cosmic fabric formed by the realities of the letters that emanate from the mystery of the Alif, primordial reality of every number and every letter, of numerical value one, whose vertical stroke is the axial symbol par excellence. The world of letters is therefore the background of this creative exhalation, where everything is a mysterious reflection of the One.
