Madame de Svign

Originally published in 1936, this book presents an account of some aspects of the life of the renowned French letter-writer and aristocrat Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, marquise de Svign (1626-96). The text was written by the Cambridge literary critic Arthur Augustus Tilley (1851-1942) and is divided into four chapters: 'Mme de Svign and the news'; 'Mme de Svign and her friends'; 'Mme de Svign at Livry and Les Rochers'; 'Mme de Svign and her books'. Notes are incorporated throughout. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the life and writings of Mme de Svign or seventeenth-century France.
