This book on Magnetostratigraphy of the sedimentary sequences of Himalayan foot-hills presents various aspects of the Earth's magnetic field. Palaeomagnetism has brought many changes in the development and understanding of the Earth Sciences in last 40 years. This has led finding of a new type of stratigraphy based on the aperiodic reversal of polarity of the geomagnetic field, which is known as Magnetostratigraphy. Magnetic Polarity Stratigraphy is the study of organizing the sedimentary strata according to the magnetic polarities acquired during the process of sediment accumulation. In front of the Himalayas a foredeep was formed due to the collisional event of Indian plate with Eurasian plate. Molasse sedimentary material has been deposited in this foredeep, which is known as Siwalik Basin. Beautiful stream sections expose the outcrops at Himachal Pradesh, India. Two sections selected to find out the age as well as the rotational event within the Himalayan foot-hills. The age of these two sections ranged from 12.90 to 2.5 Ma. These sections have undergone a clockwise rotation of 3 and 6 which can be attributed to the local tectonics and/or collisional event.
