At age eight Marilyn Harlin already knew she wanted to be a scientist.Throughout the peaks and valleys in her life-including widowhood whenher husband fell off a mountain in Switzerland, and the challenges of raisingtwo children on her own--she kept her eyes on her goal and eventuallyjoined the faculty at the University of Rhode Island as its only female botanyprofessor.
