Blind people marching to the beat, illiterate people composing music, retirees, skaters, choirs, activists: they all are guests of Marinella Senatore. In her collaborative works, the Italian artist combines strategies of political protest movements with artistic forms of expression. Different media such as performance, sculpture, textile, photo, collage, drawing and video become a language of their own, a means of negotiating questions of emancipation. This catalogue accompanies the artists largest exhibition to date at the Museum VILLA STUCK and the Generali Foundation Collection at the Museum der Moderne Salzburg: international authors discuss questions about the tension between the individual and the collective, longings and belonging, sociopolitical exclusion and alternative forms of society, as well as the transformative potential of art.
