Martian Aeolian Geomorphology

This book covers Martian Aeolian Geomorphology and is organized around three main foci. Thefirst focus is about advancing our understanding ofaeolian geomorphology through research onMartian aeolian landforms. Chapters 1 through 4 provide essential knowledge forunderstanding theaeolian geomorphology ofMars. Among them, Chapters 1 and 2 provide readers witha clear understanding ofthesignificance, scientific status and methodology ofthestudy ofaeolian geomorphology onMars. Chapters 3 introduces thephysics ofaeolian geomorphology and Chapter 4 presents an overview ofMars. Chapters 5 and 6 are devoted totheMartian atmosphere, and Martian sediments respectively, constituting thedynamic conditions and thematerial basis fortheformation ofaeolian landforms, their basic characteristics, theprocesses that control their formation and evolution, and comparisons withEarth. Chapters 7 and 8 discuss thegeomorphological types, morphology and distribution ofdunes onMars, and extract information onthedevelopmental environment and processes that control dune landforms. Thesecond focus ofthis book concerns theunique characteristics ofMartian aeolian landforms. Chapters 9 and 10 provide thorough introductions toseveral unique Martian aeolian landforms. Thethird focus is toprovide a textbook forgraduate students. To facilitate understanding ofMartian aeolian landforms and deepen thereader's comprehension ofcurrent aeolian geomorphological theories, we connect thecharacteristics ofvarious aspects ofMartian aeolian landforms withtherelevant theories, and especially theclassical theories that have stood thetest oftime. At thesame time, we try topresent different viewpoints and hypotheses onrelevant scientific issues, leaving readers withwide room forinnovative thinking. Thebook's 12 chapters are ordered tostart withan overview offundamental knowledge (Chapters 1to 4), continue (Chapters 5 to11) bydescribing thebook's core content, and conclude (Chapters 12 ) byrelating what we believe about Mars towhat we know about Earth.
