Master Planning for the Arts

An arts master plan s a tool to create a communty that embraces the local arts as a unque and vtal resorce whch shapes and reflects the cty's cultural dentty, whle leveragng the arts as a key component for an overall economc development strategy. This research examnes the suitability of landscape archtects to lead the desgn and development of arts master plans for communtes by assessing current arts master plan practices in major US metropolitan areas. It first identifies the needs of the arts master planning process through systematc documentaton of expert opnons, then compares them to the scope of master plannng for the arts. This scholarly inquiry not only searches for prerequstes and professonal apttudes needed to successfully complete a communty art's master plan and assess the role of landscape archtects but also positions landscape architecture and arts master planning within the broader context of planning process of large cities in the US.
