The later part of the eighteenth century marked a very important turning point in the history of Tamil Nadu. Political changes took place very quickly in the soil of Madurai, especially in Maravar Seema. As well as an unprecedented drought gripped the people. In the midst of this atrocity, the dominant hysteria of the Parangiyas jumped like an arugambulla. The Kumbhaniyar took steps to permanently remove the ancient and glorious Ramanathapuram and Thanjavur autonomous states. Also, Muthuramalinga Sethupathi, the king of Ramanathapuram, who had risen from the ashes, which had been the anchor of the Nayaka kingdom for three hundred years, was imprisoned for a lifetime. Panchalankurichi and Saptur settlers were hanged. Seeing these atrocities, the Seema settlers of Madurai and Dindigul boiled up with the Seema people of Ramanathapuram. Among them are Kadalgudi, Kulathur, Golwarpatti, Sivagiri, Palani, Virupatchi, Kanniwadi. Gombay, Devadanapatti, Warapur and Natham settlers are notable. In such a turbulent situation, the pharmacists who acted as the heads of the Sivagangai government took a bold decision to define the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu. Until then they had been their best friends, and their decision to fight the English East India Company and their hegemonic plunder was their decision to 'have no support of goodness, no incense of fire', was it not?
