The book, Media, Environmental Sustainability and National Development in Nigeria takes a look at the interface between the mass media and the environment in the process of national development. Quite often many take part in practices that hurt the environment to the extent that human survival is impaired. Such practices include unrestrained felling of trees which leads to deforestation; and unregulated hunting to the extent that many animals have become extinct. Many ecological problems have resulted with erosion washing off top soil which imperils agricultural development. The destruction of the flora and fauna is also an important challenge. Since the mass media are channels of information to the populace, the book emphasizes the role of the mass media in drawing attention to healthy environment practices while discouraging negative human activities that depreciate the quality of the environment and endanger the survival of present and future generations of the human race.
