Messages from Heaven

In these Messages from Heaven: For My Priests, the Suffering Heart of Jesus agonizes for the conversion of priests' hearts to heroic holiness. God asks priests to see themselves through His eyes, with the capacity for heroic sanctity, not through limited self-vision or fear.

To be a shepherd like Christ is a demanding vocation that is for God's glory. The priest is to love and serve as Jesus did: I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do (John 13:15). No disciple is superior to the teacher, but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher (Luke 6:40).

This book refreshes St. Peter's exhortation to his fellow presbyters: Tend the flock of God in your midst, overseeing not by constraint but willingly, as God would have it, not for shameful profit but eagerly. Do not lord it over those assigned to you, but be examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory (1 Peter 5:2-4).
