The ndingthatinterstitiallung diseasedevelopsinfamilieswithcytotoxicmutationsinsurfactantproteinC(SP-C), agenewhichisexpressedonlyinalveolartypecells, hasunderscoredtheimportance oftheintegrityofthealveolarepitheliuminthepathogenesisofparenchymal brosis.
