Charlemagne's grandson escaped Hugh Capet by marrying Edward the Elder's daughter Eagdifu of Wessex, England. Charles the Simple's descendant eventually ascended to the British Throne in King James ("Jacobus") Stuart. Descendant Bonnie Charles, the Pretender King, subsequently led the Jacobite Rebellion, and in France, the Jacobins, as a secret society, including revolutionaries such as Maximillian Robespierre and King Louis Philippe Joseph d'Orleans, socially engineered the French Revolution. Why?
