Montana Blues

A young Black man lands in the least-Black state. Twin sisters, White and as tough as mountain blizzards, think he's sweet. Their friendship triggers racist violence on a spectacular landscape. Dawson Koloko, raised by his aunt in a diverse neighborhood in urban California, plays football well enough to be recruited by Montana State University. He suffers culture shock landing in a wild place that's very White, but two bold cheerleaders - Rose and Nikki Fontaine - welcome him. Nikki and Dawson begin an affair savoring their differences, until Nikki is strangled and many Montanans assume the Black man did the crime. It's no football story. Dawson has to hunt for the murderer and opera-loving White supremacists are among the suspects. In the turmoil of shifting relationships, horse rides in stormy weather and a fight on an almost-frozen lake, Dawson is struck blind and Rose takes the lead. Their unusual hunt roams the West and returns to Montana for a climax on a fortified mountain ranch. Feels like everybody is on thin ice ...
