Moseley Old Hall, Staffordshire

This Elizabethan farmhouse, with its beautiful 17th-century style garden, is richly entwined with the survival of the monarchy in Britain. For two nights in 1651, Moseley Old Hall became a place of refuge for King Charles II as he fled the Battle of Worcester. The future king hid in the house's priest-hole as his searching enemies came to the front door. The support of the Whitgreave family afforded Charles time to plan his escape. This guidebook explores the history of Moseley Old Hall, including a glimpse into the lives of the people who aided Charles II, and how the property has evolved over the centuries - from a timber-framed merchants house, and the home of one family for over 200 years, to the red-brick manor you see today; a place where visitors can be transported back to the 1600s whilst re-tracing the footsteps of a King.
