Peter Affleck had always prided himself on the cold empiricism that guided him through life. If it made him distant from his wife and son that seemed a small price to pay for the wealth and status he enjoyed as a successful architect.But even the staunchest of atheists can discover faith when the life of their only son is at stake. Medical science having failed to cure his son's cancer, Peter recalls the myth of a mountain spring said to contain miraculous healing powers and convinces Michael to accompany him on a sponsored walk from Dundee to Arrochar, culminating in the assent of Beinn Narnain.Unable to confide his true reason for visiting the mountain to either wife or son, Peter finds himself embarking on a spiritual odyssey in an attempt to reconcile the lapsed faith of his youth with his desperate need to find a cure.Beset by doubt and self-recrimination, Peter finally arrives at the mountain, where he must face the sum of his fears.
