Movement Disorders

Psychiatry and neurology were not always the separate disciplines they are today. This 20th century schism, which engenders considerable confusion in diagnosis and treatment, is most pronounced in the areas where psychiatry and neurology strongly overlap. One of the most important of these domains is movement disorders. Here, abnormalities of thought, affect, and behavior that characterize psychiatric disorders frequently have similar motor manifestations to those occurring in neurological disorders. Tics, hypokinesia and stereotypies
are a few examples of clinical signs found in both psychiatric and neurological illnesses.
