Moving On

Moving On picks up on the lives of Katherine, Kelly, Janet and Cassandra who met as they participated in Anna Koplenski's research project. Anna is on a mission to demystify death and stop it being swept under the carpet. All these ladies have in common is that they are widows of a similar age. We got to know them in The Last Taboo and whilst Cassandra has approached Janet with the offer of a job helping her to build a fitting monument to her late husband's memory, there is no apparent reason for the women to meet again in the future. However, as Cassandra brings her plans to set up refuges for troubled girls then boys she finds that there are gaps in areas of expertise that can be filled by both Katherine and Kelly. Brenda, who was responsible for getting Janet to go to the research meeting in the first place, is also brought on board so the story shows very real friendships and bonds developing between the women. Their work, whilst very satisfying, also proves to be harrowing at times so as young girls pass through their hands there is laughter as well as tears along the way and for one lady, a whiff of unexpected romance. And Anna? She follows their progress with great interest as she launches books, talks and interviews on the general public. An absorbing and thought provoking read that only came about in response to readers' reactions to the key characters from The Last Taboo.
