This book tells the story of a special gift that a parent has for a child. It is told in rhyme which flows beautifully, and the colorful illustrations really bring the story to life. The gift is compared to many special things in a child's life such as special toys or clothes, and emphasis is on the fact that it cannot be manufactured or found hidden away in a box. The illustrations showing a ribbon-tied box keep the young reader mesmerized, wondering and guessing what the special gift might be. What could possibly be so special that it can help when you are hurting, or help when you are lost or alone, or feeling afraid? This delightful story is told in such a way that a child's attention will be held as the story is read out aloud. The illustrations perfectly describe the emotions and the mystery of what the gift might be, and the fact that the story is in rhyme gives it that magical quality. It's a lovely way to explain the depth of a parent's love for a child. The story moves along, comparing an assortment of gifts, but emphasizing that the gift the parent offers is the ultimate gift of all. This story will certainly have its readers on the edge of their seats until they come to the climax. A lovely book that any child will adore, and especially at bedtime when a child often needs reassurance.

Bright fun pictures, reminiscent of anime, illustrate V. Moua's My Gift For You. The writing's clear and easy to read, never sing-song, but with a pleasing rhythm and rhyme. And the pictures match each simple sentence, inviting laughter and fun. A gift that can't be painted is paired with a nursery where squeezed paint misses the picture and falls on teddy, floor and more. Interesting words like "hue" and "compass," are used to perfect intent and invite readers to learn more. A gift that is "patient like the desert that waits for rain," and "gentle like a cool summer breeze"; can you guess what it is? Can your child? I love this book, and it's perfect for Valentine's Day!
