Text in English, Japanese & German. This is the fourth volume in the series of town reading books to international cities. Basis of the project are black-and-white photographs from the archives of interior designer Martha Huber-Villiger from the years 1953 and 1954, and colour photographs of Naomi Hanakata from recent years. Martha Villiger accompanied Charlotte Perriand and her family in the 50s for a year in Tokyo, there to prepare the exhibition "La Synthese des Arts". Naomi Hanakata Tokyo has visited and photographed again. At the moment she lives and works there as an architect. The photos show the architectural, social, economic and cultural changes of this fascinating city in the last almost 60 years after the Tokhoku earthquake and Fukushima. Very different authors have been inspired by the photos and personal stories written from everyday life experiences that have impressed them, and in which the city is in its particularity -- about life in Tokyo.
