New Jersey Election

Title: New Jersey election: speech of Mr. Smith, of Connecticut, in opposition to the proposition of Mr. C. Johnson, of Tennessee, to instruct the Committee on Elections "to report forthwith which five of the ten individuals claiming seats from the state of New Jersey received the greatest number of votes," at the election of 1838, the parties being at the time absent taking evidence by authority of the Committee: delivered in the House of Representatives, February 25 and 26, 1840.
