New Labour and the European Union

A contribution to the literature on the UK-EU relationship and on the development of the Labour Party since Tony Blair assumed leadership in 1994. It provides an examination of the process of policy-making undertaken by the Labour party in relation to the 1996-97 intergovernmental conference (IGC) staged to review the provisions of the Treaty on European Union (Maastricht Treaty). The text seeks to move beyond the existing literature in providing a specialised examination of Labour's policy-making and positioning on the IGC based on internal party and government sources not normally available to academic scholars. The work should also be suitable for students taking courses on British politics and European integration.
