Njabala - The Beautiful African Girl

This retelling of the old Ugandan folktale, with a modern twist, is about Njabala a beautiful young maiden, the only child to a loving couple. Her parents love and indulge her so much that she doesn't learn any chores or life skills. Her village falls on hard times, and Njabala is married off to help save her ailing mother. She is whisked off to a far off land where she faces great cruelty from her husband and his mother. As she struggles through her marriage, she sings and implores her mothers' spirit to come save her from her torment, lamenting and regretting her life. Njabala is determined to change her life around and help other little girls not face her fate, learning from her mother's spirit to break free from all the things that seem to hold her back.
