A sudden, reckless, and obsessive love affair reveals old secrets in time and place. In a tiny Florida Gulf Coast fishing village Nora lures Roger into her arms and into his past. Roger, though happily married to Anne, quickly responds, captivated by the bewitching Nora and the experiences she reveals to him of their former life a century ago. Though he understands that his marriage may be on the line, Roger cannot resist Nora's allure, finding every opportunity to be with her until fate takes a frightening and unexpected turn.
Two star-crossed lovers suddenly find themselves face to face. Nora's unique ability to experience episodes in their former life leads to complications which neither can avoid. Gus Cagle, a man steeped in local history who has known Nora since her childhood, becomes suspicious. His developing involvement in their relationship culminates in an emotional, violent and surprising climax.
