Oath of Allegiance is a collection of insightful poetry that protests the treatment of "special" or "gifted" students, those who are often bullied because they are considered different.
These protest and meditation poems reject how these innocent and "different" people are treated. The author suffered from bullying growing up, and the effects still haunt him.
Author Charles Christie Mulaga says the work of other writers has inspired him, especially when the writing is about extraordinary courage, and the sacrifices made for peace and freedom. He is also motivated by the extraordinary endeavors to alleviate the suffering of humanity through science and technology.
He is disheartened by elders who instill prejudice in the minds of children, which can lead to vindictive actions that only slow down our civilization.
"As a Christian, I like the idea of forgiveness. When the abuse gets overwhelming, I feel let down, but still more I forgive. The lord will help me," he says. "Putting such experiences in writing is also part of my attempt to heal and share it with the world."
About the Author: Charles Christie Mulaga was born the youngest of seven children to two rural school teachers in Northern Malawi. His parents encouraged him to read a lot, which helped develop his writing skills. He is a civil servant and works for the government. This is his first book.
