The publication of New York sociologist Richard Sennett's study TheCraftsman, and of assorted government reports from all over the Western world, have helped to focus attention on the issue and to give it urgency. It ranges from teaching and training (the value of "making things," whatever the subject) right across the spectrum to the stimulation of modern creative industries."
