On the Basis of Hearsay

This is the story of a young boy's journey into manhood starting in 1936 with emigration from Nazi Germany. The author vividly describes his arrival in England and the culture shock of Teesside where his family settled. He tells of his education from Catholic prep school to Oxford. He paints a loving picture of his large and ebullient, family and tells the story of the business their talent created and their failings lost. Despite some sad events this is a happy story of warmth, love, and determination, told with affection and wit.
