On The Run

A translation of Colm Gaora's MISE. On the Run is a translation of Colm Gaoras Mise, one of the best-known accounts of the War of Independence in the Irish language. Gaora was an important figure in the development of republicanism and the IRB in the west of Ireland, and On the Run is a fascinating record of that turbulent era in Irish history. Gaora gives a vivid account of the social and living conditions of the people of Connemara in the early years of the twentieth century, his time working as a Gaelic League organiser, his experiences as a member of the IRB and the Irish Volunteers, and the events he took part in during the War of Independence.
