The gospel of John is not unlike the aforementioned terrain; it has ups and downs as it fulfills its purpose for being written-to tell the world that the Savior has come and to believe in Him in order to have eternal life. John prepared the way for Jesus' ministry and the message of salvation. His gospel is solely focused on saving the lost. Jesus, in His own words, says in John 10:10, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
