Jenna Davis is returning to Balsam River after six years away, when she was busy going to school and working in the city. She left after the death of one of her best friends and sister in law, Amy Ryan. Her brother and newborn niece left town to cope with their grief, and the Ryan's seemed to have needed their own time and space to grieve their sister.
