The purpose of this study is to clarify what Count Zinzendorf meant when he referred to the Holy Spirit as the 'Mother.' The primary data of this study is Zinzendorf's textual employment of the language within the community in which it functioned. The author proposes that it was an expression of Martin Luther's doctrine of the Spirit and classical Christian trinitarian teaching which warranted the practice of gender-inclusive, egalitarian community.
