Painting the Feminine

I published this book for you to pick up your brush and paint in it. Yes, that's correct. I want you to cover every square inch with your own paint, oil pastels, markers, graphite and collage so that nothing of my own work exists. What you are holding in your hands is more than just a book; it's an art journal. 

In 2015, a dear friend of mine gave me a beautiful book on color. The moment I held that baby in my hand, something shifted. The size of it, the texture of the paper, and, most especially, the bold, colorful photos made every cell in my body want to paint in it. I finally gave into my desires to begin painting in that book and it was the beginning of what you now hold in your hands. For five straight years, my Painting-the-Feminine art journal became a trusted companion and guide; my way of connecting, understanding and learning to trust the deeper wisdom inside me. 

There are paintings in this book that told me to change direction in my life; paintings that showed me again and again what I was ignoring until I finally gave in; paintings that grew arms that reached out and held me; paintings made in blessed community and paintings I will never, ever tell anyone the meaning of. 

This book is for you, dear Painter; completely for you. May this be the beginning of a new season for you; one that heals and empowers the parts of yourself that so desperately need to be heard and cared for. Paint in this book when your heart feels heavy, when your life is filled with joy, when guidance is what you so desperately need. Don't be afraid. Paint all your desires, your dreams, your worries and fears. Paint as a way of releasing yourself from the iron grip life has on your soul.
