Parties and Party Systems in the New Germany

"Parties and Party Systems in the New Germany" examines the formation of party democracy in the ex-GDR out of the opposition groups which emerged in the last months of the regime. It examines the new electoral landscape, suggesting that there are very significant differences between east and west in terms of the relationship between parties and voters. There is an analysis of party system changes at both federal and state levels, and each of the parties is examined against the background of the new unification process.
