This book teaches new riders how to become confident and safe on the road. Its the first book which arms beginners with the knowledge to choose an excellent bike training school, to monitor their own training, and to start riding with a full complement of real-world survival skills. It also covers post-test improvement, the causes of the most common accidents (written by a police accident investigator), and advice on getting back into biking. More than 70,000 people a year qualify for a full bike licence in the UK. They tend to be 30-50 years old, and the decision to take the plunge usually comes after months of even years of thinking about it. But training in the UK is very hit and miss. Some riding schools offer outstanding tuition; the majority are merely adequate. Many offer instruction which is poor or even dangerous. On top of all this, the motorcycle test falls woefully short of what is needed to produce a safe, skilful rider. Specifically, it makes no examination of high-speed steering or braking, or of cornering - the very situations where most accidents happen. Novice riders know nothing of this, and the two existing books which accompany the test leave them none the wiser.

Key Selling Points

Printed in full colour with stunning photographs and illustrations throughout.

Its a new approach: it speaks to beginners in a language they can understand and connect with. Throughout the book, many riders speak of their own experiences.

It provides guidance on picking a good training centre, and teaches new riders to understand the skills they will need to be a great biker before they start their course.
