Peter's Journey

America is a nation of immigrants, of journeys. Yet few people today know the facts of where their ancestors originated or why they came here. This book tells the story of Peter Hasselbacher. Born in 1759 in a small kingdom in what is now Germany, Peter came to America as a soldier. He remained as a settler. The tale of how he came here, and what led him to remain, is a supremely American story. America changed Peter, even to the point that he changed his name and founded the Hazelbaker family which is descended from him. This book, a novel, is based on research into the conditions which existed in Peter's childhood home, and what happened when he reached adulthood that led him to cross the Atlantic -- and not return.
