Poems From The Sand speaks of a writer’s adventurous journey during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The reader will gain insight to what obstacles the military and civilians face daily.

The author was born in Houston Texas where he still resides today. He

attended HISD secondary schools and graduated from Wheatley Sr High and

Texas Southern University with a BS degree in Mathematics. After 15 years

in management and being on the receiving end of right-sizing by several

companies, he joined a branch of the government and began a new career. He

received recognition for being an outstanding achiever in 1995. In 1998, he

received a patent for developing a product D-Wash net” that kept the dishes

from being tossed about in the home dishwasher. One day in 2004, he was

told about employment opportunities that existed overseas. After weighing

employment options, he boarded a plane in May 2004 and 20 hours later, he

found himself exiting the plane in Kuwait. After being in Kuwait for 6 days,

he learned that his fate would be truly tested because the decision had been

made that his group was heading north into Iraq. He signed for his ballistic

helmet and bullet-proofed vest and convoyed to the holy city of Babylon.

He soon departed Babylon and headed for a Diwaniyah, south of Baghdad.

Diwaniyah is where he began writing. He began to write poems about things

that he saw and things that was personal to him as well as things that friends

talked about. Now three years later, he has written over 100 poems and has

decided to share his story with people of all ages. Poems from the Sand is

his first book.
