The author was adopted at a very young age. With an older brother, also adopted and a younger sister, the parents only natural child, she felt as if she was a fifth wheel. She had a good life and was raised well but, her parents never spoke to her about where she came from or why she was adopted. They never spoke to her about family history like they spoke to the other daughter. She always felt alone, an outsider. Never listened to or understood. She always felt there were things missing in her life. One day she started writing and found that putting the words on paper made things seem clearer. By expressing herself, she began realizing who she was. She no longer felt that her life needed verification by anyone. When others read her poems she felt that they were hearing her. She finally felt she had a voice and someone was listening. We are who we are. Sometimes we just need to find out who that is. You may connect with many of the writings in this book. You may find out some things about yourself as you ponder the writings. The author did. She realized she was a mother, a wife, a grandmother, a friend and an okay person. She, like everyone else, has feeling and a right to be heard. She realized she had a right to be here and to live.
