Ponder Anew is the story of a man's life. Of Scottish descent, John Graham was born in 1923 into a military family, was educated and brought up in England, and spent nearly all of his working life in the British Army. What is unusual about this book and sets it apart from other memoirs, is that John Graham wrote about his experiences as they occurred. Here he has set them out, in a deliberately limited number of copies, as a personal historical record and as a private tribute to his Service colleagues and friends from many nations. He served in the Home Guard on the Isle of Wight before enlisting in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. He first saw active service in the British Liberation Army in Europe in 1944, and his subsequent career took him to Palestine, Czechoslovakia, British Guiana, Cyprus, Germany, France, the Congo, Bahrain, Aden, Oman, India and South-East Asia. He also held several posts in England and Wales. At close quarters he witnessed some of the most important events of the second half of the 20th century, and came into contact with many of the leading players. As well as a reflection on the major figures and events of the 20th century, John Graham's story is a tribute to his family, and to the men and women, military and civilian, whose paths crossed his, and who played a significant part in his life.
