Practical Mandarin for Beginners

With the aid of custom-made tapes, the focus here is on practical communication in Mandarin. Language for everyday situations is covered, using a vocubulary of about 1200 words. Besides speaking and listening skills, written characters and symbols are introduced here. The reader may learn about both simplified and traditional characters. For the reader who encounters unfamiliar Chinese characters, this book uses a `romanised' Pinyin, whereby the characters are connected to similar sounding words in the Roman alphabet.
