Prevalence, Profile and Outcomes of High Blood Pressure

Often called the "silent killer", hypertension is also a major modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and mortality. In most cases, hypertension is asymptomatic and can only be diagnosed with an adequate blood pressure measurement. It can occur at any age, but its incidence increases with advancing age. It increases the risk of stroke, corollary disease, heart failure, renal failure and cognitive impairment. It is rapidly becoming a major public health problem in low and middle income countries. No country in the world is immune to the epidemic of high blood pressure.
