Promise of the Moon offers a gritty and realistic portrayal of the experiences of U.S. soldiers in the field artillery during World War II. The sweeping, strategic history of several of the Allied Forces key landings are contrasted with the personal, individual concerns of infantrymen in the midst of battle. This is an exploration of wartime's dulling effect on romance and the difficulties of making love in a time of war- when time, distance and censorship created heartbreaking challenges.
