Public Prosecutors and Discretion

This book is a study of the role of the public prosecutor in the criminal justice systems of Scotland, England and Wales, the Netherlands, and Germany. In particular it analyses the prosecutor's influence over sentencing and the extent to which the roles of the prosecutor and judges overlap. With the increased scrutiny in England and Wales of sentencing practice this original and scholarly study will make an important contribution to the debates.
