Type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is a chronic disease that occurs in childhood or adolescence. Its diagnosis disrupts parents' lives. The aims of this study were to assess its impact on parental quality of life (QoL) and to study the factors that may influence it. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted between May 2019 and December 2020 that included 50 parents of adolescents with T1DM followed at the outpatient clinic or hospitalized at the Zohaier Kallel National Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology. We collected parents' and patients' socio-demographic and medical data. To assess parents' quality of life, we used Peds QL2.0: the family impact module in its validated Arabic version. Results: Our population consisted of 45 mothers and 5 fathers. We included 27 girls and 23 boys with a mean age of 16.12 ±1.63 years. The mean global HRQOL score was 56.42 ±23.48%. The lowest mean score was for anxiety: 45.50±27.96% followed by parental functioning: 54.53±25.91% of family functioning.
