Augie West is living his solitary daily routine in the shadows of the majestic Teton Range as foreman of three-hundred-acre Six Dawns Ranch. Meanwhile, over a thousand miles away, eight-year-old Rose Lawson is emancipated from Whispering Woods Children's Home after witnessing her mother's murder by her father's hand, and is relocated by her grandfather to the ranch that has been in the family for three-quarters of a century.
