Re:Birth examines pregnancy and childbirth through the finished work of the cross. We understand that Jesus can radically change our lives, so why not births too? The very first sin that Eve committed in the Garden of Eden plunged the world into chaos and drastically changed childbirth, but Jesus paid the highest price for the forgiveness of sins, shouldn't that cover Eve's sin?
The first stop on our journey will be Eden. Once we understand what was lost at the fall of man, we can understand what was gained through Jesus's death and resurrection. Then, we will visit the Hebrew women who lived as slaves in Egypt. As Pharaoh attempted genocide against God's people, God moved miraculously to protect them. That same protection and healing "sozo" is magnified over our own lives through Jesus, and we will meet moms who powerfully experienced it in their own births.
We will spend some time with biblical women who longed to hold a child of their own and witnessed the fulfillment of their hearts' desires. Through the finished work of the Cross, Scripture reveals how Jesus brings healing to barrenness and crushed the "curse" of barrenness. Then we can rejoice in the real-life victories of moms who are raising miracle babies.
After, we will examine the land of Israel as they faced the coming destruction of an invading army, the destruction that was likened to a woman suffering in labor. We will learn from the mistakes of the past as we build our own protective fortress through Jesus. Then, we will witness how Jesus's atonement changes a negative prophetic image of a laboring woman into a positive blessing, even indicating to births without travail.
As we see God move mightily in the lives of biblical moms-to-be, we begin to understand how our own identities have been restored as children of God who are clothed with the Holy Spirit. That same Holy Spirit would have helped Eve bring forth her babies in the perfection of Eden, aided her in her deliveries outside of Eden, and dwells inside each of us, allowing for Heaven to come to earth. Every circumstance is different, and every mom is different, but Scripture teaches some tried and true methods to help us overcome obstacles when circumstances do not match God's Words.
There is not a singular way in which God helps birth. Rather, there is an infinite number of ways in which He can help. God is just as present, and just as able to do the miraculous through every type of birth, from bathtubs to hospitals. God wants to show His glory in all areas of Christians' lives. Pregnancy and delivery are just more opportunities for Jesus's redemption to shine over the former consequences of sin!
